ESP8266: Connect failed to mqtt.flespi.io:1883, rc -2

I want to try out flespi with my ESP8266 running the (awesome!) Tasmota firmware.
When using the flespi MQTT broker, i get the error message:
Can't connect to mqtt.flespi.io: Connect failed to mqtt.flespi.io:1883, rc -2

The device can, however, connect to another MQTT server of mine without problems. So it's not nlocked ports or anything like this.

I am using an unsecured connection, if that makes a difference.

I can connect to the MQTT broker from a different Linux machine using mosquitto_pub. So the credentials are fine.

Are you maybe geoblocking certain networks? I'm using a 4G SIM card here in Costa Rica.

Are you using esp8266 with gsm module and internet is consumed via gsm module? Maybe the problem is that your internet connection on esp just doesn't work?
Try connecting using a wifi connection.

We, for our part, do not block any connections.

I'm using the ESP8266 running Tasmota connected to a 4G WiFi Modem, and it works using my own MQTT (mosquitto) broker, so it doesn't seem to be a connection issue.

Is there a way to use a shorter token/username with your service? Maybe the rather long "username" doesn't work well with embedded, memory restricted devices?

Alternatively, if it's more convenient and secure for your client library, you can put a flespi token into the Password field instead of Username. For MQTT clients with a 16-byte limit on username or password fields, you may use special authorization.

But I have configured my ESP(with latest tasmota) to use flespi broker before and everything worked fine.
